DHCP Lease - The lease referres to the amount of time that an IP Address will be reserved by the DHCP server to allow for reconnection of a device to the assigned DHCP IP Address.

DHCP - Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, a protocol for assigning dynamic IP addresses to devices on a network.

DNS - Domain Name System is a hierarchical naming system for computers, services, or any resource participating in the Internet.

DSL - DSL or xDSL, is a family of technologies that provides digital data transmission over the wires of a local telephone network.

Dynamic IP - Is a temporary IP address for the duration of that Internet session or for some other specified amount of time(DHCP Lease).

Gateway - A node on a network that serves as an entrance to another network

Internet - A global network connecting millions of computers.

Intranet - A network based on TCP/IP protocols belonging to an organization, usually a corporation, accessible only by the organization's members, employees, or others with authorization

IP Address - An Internet Protocol (IP) address is a numerical identification (logical address) that is assigned to devices participating in a computer network utilizing the Internet Protocol for communication between its nodes.

IPv4 - Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) is the fourth revision in the development of the Internet Protocol (IP) and it is the first version of the protocol to be widely deployed.

IPv6 - Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) is the next-generation Internet Layer protocol for packet-switched internetworks and the Internet. IPv4 is currently the dominant Internet Protocol version

Local Host - is a reserved top-level domain not intended for practical use in the global Domain Name System (DNS).

MAC Address - Media Access Control address - Is a hardware address, adapter address or physical address is a quasi-unique identifier assigned to most network adapters or network interface cards (NICs) by the manufacturer for identification. If assigned by the manufacturer, a MAC address usually encodes the manufacturer's registered identification number.

Modem - is a device that modulates an analog carrier signal to encode digital information, and also demodulates such a carrier signal to decode the transmitted information.

Network Map - Is documentation identifying all of the network devices with coresponding technical information.

NIC - Network Interface Card

OSI - Open Systems Interconnection - This model divides the communication and computer network protocol into seven different layers. The seven layers are:

7Application Layer
6Presentation Layer
5Session Layer
4Transport Layer
3Network Layer
2Data Link Layer
* LLC sublayer
* MAC sublayer
1Physical Layer

Ping - Is a computer network tool used to test whether a particular host is reachable across an IP network

Router - Is a networking device whose software and hardware are usually tailored to the tasks of routing and forwarding information.

Static IP - Is a number that is assigned to a computer by an Internet service provider (ISP) to be its permanent address on the Internet.

Subnet Mask - Describes networked computers and devices that have a common, designated IP address routing prefix.

Switch - A network switch is a computer networking device that connects network segments.

TCP - Transmission Control Protocol, transport layer protocol that is one of the core protocols of the Internet protocol suite.

TraceRoute (tracert) - Is a computer network tool used to determine the route taken by packets across an IP network.
